This Sunday, Americans celebrate and partake in Random Acts of Kindness Day, a holiday encouraging people to make kind gestures to friends, family, and strangers alike. We would like to highlight a major act of kindness started by one of Edlen’s Miami team members – an Annual Backpack Giveaway for underprivileged children.
Adrian Hall has been with Edlen since July 2005, and quickly rose through the ranks to become our Assistant Warehouse Manager. His duties, however, reach far beyond the walls of the warehouse; he also does all air and water distributions in the Miami market, and plays a vital role in all day-to-day operations in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. The local electricians have nicknamed Adrian “A-Plus” because he is extremely good at his job.
Adrian is originally from Jamaica, and wanted to help the children of his hometown. In 2013, he and his friend started a program to provide backpacks for the local kids. The giveaway was so successful that Adrian decided to make it an annual event. For five years, Adrian returns home to Jamaica with boxes of backpacks, eager to put a smile on the kids’ faces.
Last year, the Edlen Miami team found out about Adrian’s program, and decided to participate in the 5th annual drive. Thanks in part to Adrian and his Edlen team members, over two dozen children started their school year with a brand-new backpack. Team Edlen looks forward to participating in the 6th drive, which will happen at the end of this year.
Bestowing kindness upon other people is empowering to both the giver and the receiver. As the famous cartoonist Scott Adams put it: “Remember there’s no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end.”
