Cost Saving Tips

  1. Place your electrical order prior to the advance order deadline date. This date is typically 21-30 days prior to the event date.
  2. Verify that you are ordering the correct amount of power prior to the deadline date. Adding power after that date can be 25-50% more expensive.
  3. Do not assume that you can repeat the previous year’s power order even if your exhibit booth and layout have not changed. Power options vary in different venues. One venue may only offer a single 20-amp 120-volt outlet, while others offer less expensive 5, 10 and 15 amp 120-volt outlets. The same applies to 208-volt outlets.
  4. Always provide a detailed electrical booth layout, with dimensions, orientation and a main drop location in advance to allow the electricians to install the electrical services prior to your arrival. Providing outdated plans, incomplete floor plans or no floor plan will delay installation of your booth and add to your labor cost. If the decorator installs your carpet before the electrical services have been installed, you will incur additional costs and delays to have your carpet removed, the electrical services installed and the carpet replaced.
  5. Labor rules vary by venue. Review the labor rules for your show and make sure you are scheduling and budgeting the correct labor to perform the work required for your exhibit. Changes at show site can be costly.
  6. Utilize LED lighting in your exhibit. LED lighting utilizes much less power. Keep in mind that many convention centers do not allow halogen light fixtures.
  7. A credit card is required to have on file prior to work being performed in your booth. Not having a credit card on file may delay your installation and increase your costs.
  8. Pre-wire any equipment that requires a 208-volt service or higher to match the plug configuration of the electrical provider. Many times, we will have an adapter that would eliminate the need to invest in a new plug. Please call for availability.

  1. How do I determine what power to order for my booth?
    If the item you wish to plug in has a typical household plug, order a 120-volt outlet. To determine how much 120-volt power you need, there is a "plate" on every appliance that indicates how much power it needs to operate. Add up the watts or amps stated on each plate and order the total. You can also review our power usage guide to help determine the typical amps needed for popular items.

    If your item does not have a typical household plug (looks like a smiley face), reference the items manual to determine what power is needed.

  2. Does power come with the booth space?
    No, unless show management is providing an outlet for each booth space. Check with show management to determine if power is included and how much.

  3. Where is power delivered to my booth space?
    n>If you have an inline or peninsula booth, power will be delivered to the back of your booth space. If you have an island booth, you need to send us a floor plan letting us know where you would like your power located. Depending on the venue, it's either dropped from the ceiling or pulled from the floor.

  4. What do  I get when I order a 120-volt 5, 10, 15 or 20-amp outlet?
    Each outlet order comes with one location to plug in. 

  5. What if I need power in multiple locations?
    A separate outlet must be ordered for each location that requires power. Send a scaled floor plan with measurements, orientation, outlet locations and a main distribution point.

  6. Will my power be in place before I arrive?
    Inline and peninsula booths will find power at the rear drape line. Island booth power will only be in place if you submitted all of the necessary forms and layouts prior to Edlen’s move-in day.

  7. Where does the power come from? The floor or ceiling?
    Each venue is different. Contact your local Edlen office to confirm.

  8. Can I order a 30-amp 120V outlet?
    Yes, but only for a single connection. Check the online catalog for availability or call us for a quote.

  9. Can I bring my own power distribution panel?
    No. As the licensed contractor, all power distribution equipment utilized must be Edlen’s.

  10. Can I rent Edlen’s power distribution panels?
    No.

  11. What is 24-hour power? Do I need it?
    Power is only guaranteed to be "on" during move-in, show, and tear-out hours. 24-hour power is never turned off once it is delivered to the booth space and connected. If your equipment cannot be turned off (i.e.: refrigerators or computer servers), we advise you to order 24-hour power.

  12. How do I order a dedicated power outlet?
    All services 20 amps or greater are dedicated outlets. You can check our online catalog to order outlets here

  13. How do I order 220-230 volt power?
    Order the corresponding 208-volt service. Then order a buck and boost transformer to boost your power to 220/230-volt.

  14. What kind of plug configuration will I need for 208 volt or higher services?
    Pre-wire any equipment that requires a 208-volt service or higher to match the plug configuration of the electrical provider. Many times, we have an adapter that would eliminate the need to invest in a new plug. Please call for availability.

  15. Do I need to send a floor plan indicating where I would like my power installed? Inline or Peninsula booths - If you need power installed in a location other than the rear of your booths space, please provide a floor plan indicating outlet location(s) with measurements. Island booths - You must provide Edlen with a scaled floor plan that includes measurements, orientation, outlet location(s) and a main distribution point. You can provide your floor plan during the order check-out process or upload it to your order in the "My Orders" section at a later date.
  16. What is a booth package?
    A booth package is when show management provides one complimentary outlet in each booth space.

FAQ: Lighting

  1. Can I hang my own lights?
    Exhibitors are allowed to hang their own lights in some venues. However, if labor is hired to set up the booth and lights, Edlen electricians must hang the lights. Contact the Edlen office to confirm the venue labor requirements.
  2. What do your lights look like?
    – Arm lights are 1-1/2′ long, adjustable and designed for backwall lighting.
    – Track lights include 2-4 light fixtures that attach to a track attached to the booth structure or crossbars.
    – Flood lights come on an 8′ pole with a base and are usually placed at the front corners of the booth.
    – Par can or quartz lights are stage-style lighting and are hung from the ceiling.
    There are other styles of lights that may be available. Contact the Edlen office to confirm availability.
  3. If I rent booth lights from you, do I need to order power to operate them?
    No, power is included in the cost of the light.
  4. If lights are part of my decorator booth package, is power included?
    No, you need to order power to operate the lights.
  5. What are overhead par can or quartz lights?
    These are 1000-watt lights that are hung from truss, ceiling structure or catwalks. They are used to highlight overhead signs or focus on certain sections of the booth space.
  6. Do I need labor to plug in my lights?                                                  In most locations, exhibitors can plug in their own lights. Reference the published event labor forms for details.

FAQ: Air, Water & Drain

  1. How many machines can I hook up to one compressed air line?
    You may only have one machine per connection. Additional machines within 20 feet of the main connection must order additional connections.
  2. How many hookups do I get with one water line/drain line?
    You may only have one hookup for each water/drain line. Additional connections within 20 feet of the main water/drain line must order additional lines.
  3. Can I have my water filled daily?
    Yes, for an additional labor charge.
  4. What does CFM mean?
    CFM = Cubic Feet per Minute, a measurement of air volume required to operate a machine.
  5. How are compressed air or water lines delivered to my booth?
    Either line may come from the floor, ceiling or perimeter wall. Contact your local Edlen office for more information.
  6. How do you drain water out of a booth?
    If drains are not immediately available in the floor, pumps may be required to run drain lines from the ceiling. Additional charges may apply.

  1. If I mail an order form before the deadline date, can I receive advance order pricing?
    We encourage you to submit your order through our online ordering portal. If you mail an order, the floor plan and payment must all be received by the deadline date to receive advance pricing. (Additional fees apply.)
  2. Is the cost of an outlet a daily charge?
    No, the price listed is the total cost for the duration of the show.
  3. What happens if I cancel my order?
    Orders cancelled before exhibitor move-in should receive a refund after the event closes. If you cancel during exhibitor move-in and the power was installed, the cost of the service is non-refundable.
  4. Can you bill me?
    No, all balances must be paid in full before show closing. All orders require a U.S. bank issued credit card on file.
  5. Why do I need a credit card on file?
    As a guarantee of payment for any additional power, material or labor provided at show site.
  6. Why is there a deadline date?
    Deadline dates are created to allow us time to plan, engineer and install services on time.
  7. Can I pay by ACH or wire transfer?
    Yes, complete Edlen’s method of payment form and submit it with your order. You must also provide a U.S. bank issued credit card or services will not be installed.
  8. Can I order more power at show site?
    Yes. Visit the Edlen service desk, which is normally located in the Exhibitor Service Center onsite.

  1. Will I need labor to run electrical cords under my carpet?
    Yes, all electrical distribution under carpets must be performed by an Edlen electrician.
  2. Do I need labor to plug in my own 120-volt equipment? What about 208-volt equipment?
    In most locations, exhibitors can plug in their own 120-volt equipment. For any equipment 208-volt or higher, an Edlen electrician must make the connection.
  3. Do I need labor to plug in my lights?
    In most locations, exhibitors can plug in their own lights. Reference the published event labor forms for details.
  4. When does overtime labor begin?
    Straight-time and overtime hours vary in each venue. Reference the published event labor forms for the corresponding times.
  5. Do I need labor for an inline or peninsula booth?
    Power delivery to inline or peninsula booths requires labor if power needs to be installed in a location other than the back of the booth. Reference the published event labor forms if you have lights, monitor(s) or items rented from a third party.
  6. Do I need labor for an island booth?
    All island booths require labor for power distribution.
  7. Can I hard-wire any of my equipment at show site?
    No, all electrical wiring at show site must be performed by an Edlen electrician.
